Stampin’ Up Color Challenge

Good morning and welcome to another edition of Cards and Creations by Lori McBride. My name is Lori McBride and I’m a Stampin’ Up Independent Demonstrator from Joshua,TX.

Today, I’d like to share with you a card that I created for the monthly #SUColorChallenge using the *Wrapped Bouquet Bundle*

I’ve been participating in the #SUCOLORCHALLENGE for a few months now and I do have to tell you – I look forward to this challenge every single month. It’s been a great way for me to step out of my comfort zone and try different things. It almost becomes a countdown at the end of the month and definitely a curiosity as to what might be planned for the following month. It’s just a fun thing to look forward to and participate in each month.

This month’s colors are:

For this month’s challenge I chose to use the Wrapped Bouquet Bundle. I love this Bundle and have used it in past projects. I think because it does bring back some fond memories of days long past.

How many of my followers remember buying or receiving flowers wrapped in newspaper? I think it was in the early 90’s when it converted to brown paper. For a while, it was a mix around our small town. About half were wrapped in newspaper while the other half were wrapped in brown paper before fully being replaced with cellophane in the late 90’s-early 2000’s. I’m going to Shhhh now because I’m really giving away my age.

The other sentimental thing about the Wrapped Bouquet Bundle is that my father in law started his career tossing newspapers as a kid on a bike and ultimately ended up repairing press machines and traveling all over the country to repair them for more than 30 years and although now retired still does a little freelance work from time to time. So although this is a Mother’s Day card, I’m sure that when my father in law sees it, he’ll get the biggest kick out of it.

*Instructions*

I started by stamping Pretty Peacock Ink in Basic White Cardstock and die cutting them out.

I colored the flowers in Merry Merlot and Real Red Stampin’ Write Markers.

I die cut a piece of Basic White Cardstock and stamped both sides in Basic Gray Ink with the newspaper image and folded along the score lines to create the newspaper adhering it down in places with Mini Glue Dots. I also used Mini Glue Dots to adhere the bouquet to the newspaper.

I used one of the silver heart embellishments and the dark Mango Melody Stampin’ Blend marker to turn the heart gold. I tied a piece of Linen Thread around the newspaper and made a bow. I attached the heart embellishment as I tied the bow. To make sure that the Linen Thread and the Heart Embellishment wasn’t going anywhere, I added two Mini Glue Dots it. I placed one on the back of the newspaper and one under the knot of the bow.

I die cut the label from the Hippo dies and stamped it in Pretty Peacock Ink.

I die cut the leaves and other flourishes in Basic Gray. This may seem like an odd choice but when I looked at other choices for this project I thought it was my best option.
