Autism Awareness Card

Good morning and welcome to another edition of Cards and Creations by Lori McBride.

Today, I would like to share with you a very special card that I created for Worldwide Autism Awareness Day.

For those who don’t know, I have an adult son with Autism Spectrum Disorder. He’s 26 years old, he lives at home with us and works part time at a movie theater. As many know, individuals on the Spectrum thrive on repetition and routine. So if you can imagine what it was like for him when COVID-19 shutdown his brand new job, cancelled his weekly Autism Class, his monthly social and his Respite outting all in one day. It wasn’t a good day nor was it an easy day for him or for us.

It isn’t just because of COVID-19 that I made this card. I actually make these annually not only for my son but his award winning team, others we’ve met along the way as well as family and friends who have little ones being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Today’s card for this very special occasion features the Love You To Pieces Stamp Set (Item #151352) and the Puzzle Pieces Dies (Item #151793)

I started with our standard A2 Cardbase in Blueberry Bushel measuring 4 1/4″×5 1/2″. I also cut a Matte Base in Real Red Cardstock measuring 4″×5 1/4″ and a Matte Base in Whisper White Measuring 3 3/4″×5″. For the puzzle pieces I used scrap pieces of Daffodil Delight, Real Red, Balmy Blue and Blueberry Bushel Cardstocks.

For the “embossed puzzle pieces” I used a reverse die cutting technique.

I adhered the Whisper White embossed Cardstock to the Real Red Base Matte and then adhered the Real Red Matte Base to the Blueberry Bushel Cardbase.

Using mini glue dots, a put the puzzle pieces together and glued them down one by one. For the Blueberry Bushel puzzle piece, I used a Mini Stampin’ Diminsional and purposely didn’t quite put it place.

The “one piece at a time” sentiment from the Stamp Set is perfect for these cards and on the inside of the card I also stamped the blank puzzle piece and the “we just fit” sentiment.

Worldwide Autism Awareness Day is April 2nd and is a celebration of unity that we’re all in this together and is the kickoff of Autism Awareness Month.

Thank you so much for reading along today. I hope you will join me again soon for another edition.

Have a blessed day and until next time,

Happy Stampin’ Everyone!
